Come and have family fun with an aviation theme!
Bring your families to the Tangmere Military Aviation Museum’s ‘Family Day’ on Sunday 6 August between 1000 and 1700 hours – fun for the whole family all day with both indoor and outdoor children’s activities. The indoor activities include designing and colouring squadron badges, making paper aeroplanes, learning and using the Morse Code and Phonetic Alphabet and dressing up as a pilot.
In one of our aircraft halls there will be Battle of Britain plotting table demonstrations. Also present on the day will be an ambulance and a West Sussex fire engine (subject to operational requirements) for the children to explore. Royal Marine Cadets will be present to provide camouflage face painting and drill demonstrations. Outside, in addition to other interesting stalls there will be demonstrations of radio controlled model tanks. Children will have the opportunity to try their hand at driving the tanks and firing the guns!
For the ladies there will be talks on Tangmere’s women secret agents and a stall on flower arranging.
In the afternoon, subject to aircraft availability and weather, there will be a Supermarine Spitfire FlyBy by the Boultbee Filght Academy at Goodwood. Try your skills at flying our simulators including for the adults our ever popular Lightning fast jet which now has enhanced graphics making your experience even more exciting and realistic. Enter a competition and try your hand at dropping bombs on a target from a radio controlled Lancaster model. A unique opportunity – sit in the cockpits of the Museum’s two Hawker Harrier jump jets. Subject to weather other famous aircraft cockpits will be open.
When you need a refreshment break, look no further that our NAAFI tea-room, beer tent and burger bar. Relax and listen to the music of the 40s and 50s from Angel Radio’s Pete Cross and to a live skiffle group.
With easy access, free parking – all you need to do is enjoy the day!
